Cristo Redentor is a statue of Jesus Christ located on the top of Corcovado Mountain in Tijuca National Park, Rio de Janeiro. Construction took nine years, designed by engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and French sculptor Paul Landowski. The pieces were fabricated in France and shipped to Brazil. The structure is reinforced concrete covered in soapstone tiles, a material resistant to weather and pollution. The statue was electrified and, in 2007, was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a popular poll.
