Inaugurated in 80 AD by Emperor Titus, the Roman Colosseum is a marvel of Roman engineering. Its interior, measuring 189 meters long, 156 meters wide, and 48 meters tall, could accommodate between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators. The seating area (cavea) was divided into sections by social class: the elite sat closest to the arena, while commoners and women occupied the upper tiers.
