About this calculator
This hours worked calculator helps you sum up total hours worked per day, week, and month. Simply enter the start time, end time, and break duration in minutes. The calculation uses 24-hour format to avoid ambiguity. It is useful for professionals who need to track their time accurately, such as freelancers, employees with flexible schedules, or people managing their own time.
The logic is straightforward: we subtract the start time from the end time, both converted to minutes since midnight. Then we subtract the break (also in minutes) to get the total minutes worked in the day. This value is converted to hours (divided by 60) and displayed with two decimal places. From there, we multiply by 5 for a weekly estimate and by 22 for a monthly estimate, assuming a standard Monday-to-Friday schedule.
Use this tool when you need to calculate overtime, fill in timesheets, or simply understand your routine better. It is especially useful for remote workers or those with variable hours. Keep in mind that weekly and monthly estimates are based on fixed business days; adjust according to your reality.
Cautions: make sure to use 24-hour format (e.g., 13:30 for 1:30 PM). The break should be in minutes (e.g., 60 for 1 hour). The calculation does not account for overtime premiums or time banks, only the gross total. Verify that the weekly and monthly estimates match your actual workload, as holidays or days off are not automatically deducted.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert AM/PM time to 24-hour format?
Add 12 hours if it's PM (except 12 PM which is 12:00). Example: 1:30 PM becomes 13:30. 12:00 AM becomes 00:00.
Does the calculation include overtime pay?
No. The calculator only shows the gross total hours worked, without applying night shift or overtime premiums.
Can I use it for night shifts?
Yes, as long as start and end times are in 24-hour format. The calculation is mathematical, regardless of the period.
What if my break is in hours?
Convert the break to minutes. Example: 1 hour and 30 minutes = 90 minutes.
Why does the week consider 5 days and the month 22?
These values represent a typical Monday-to-Friday schedule. Adjust manually if your week or month differs.
