The OSIRIS-REx mission (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer) was launched on September 8, 2016, to study and collect samples from asteroid Bennu, a near-Earth carbon-rich body approximately 500 meters in diameter.
