This cake portion calculator helps you estimate how many slices a cake yields based on pan size and desired slice thickness. It is useful for parties, events, or sales, avoiding waste or shortage. The tool considers round and rectangular pans with a standard height of 10 cm. The calculation uses cake volume (considering 85% yield) divided by slice volume, rounded down.

How it works: for round pans, volume is π × radius² × height; for rectangular, length × width × height. Slice volume is defined by the thickness entered (default 2 cm) and slice dimensions (width equal to cake height, length equal to thickness). Multiply total volume by 0.85 to account for cutting losses and edges. The result is the integer number of portions.

When to use: when planning a cake for birthdays, weddings, gatherings, or selling slices. For example, a round cake with 25 cm diameter (12.5 cm radius) and 10 cm height yields about 35 slices of 2 cm thickness. For thinner slices (1.5 cm), the number rises to approximately 47. The calculator is practical for bakers and event organizers.

Cautions: actual yield may vary depending on cake type (denser or airier) and cutter skill. The standard height of 10 cm is an average; taller or shorter cakes change the result. Slice thickness considered is the width of the slice when cut, not the height. Use the calculator as a guide, but adjust based on your experience.
