The calculation uses a formula based on the Pythagorean theorem. Given the diagonal (d) and aspect ratio (ratio = width/height), width = d * ratio / √(ratio² + 1) and height = d / √(ratio² + 1). For example, a 55-inch screen with a 16:9 ratio yields about 121.8 cm width and 68.5 cm height. The user must input the diagonal and ratio in "width:height" format (e.g., 16:9).

Use this calculator when planning to install a TV, monitor, or projector, or when comparing devices with different aspect ratios. For instance, when choosing between a 16:9 TV and a 21:9 ultrawide monitor, real dimensions help decide which fits your furniture or wall.
