About this calculator

The Bike Pace Calculator converts your average speed in km/h to pace in minutes per kilometer, and also calculates total ride time based on distance. For example, if you ride at 30 km/h, your pace is 2 min/km; to cover 60 km, the total time will be 2 hours. The tool is useful for cyclists training with a focus on rhythm, whether on road, mountain or bike path.

The operation is simple: enter average speed (km/h) and distance (km). The calculation uses two formulas: pace = 60 / speed and time = distance / speed × 60. The result shows pace in minutes per kilometer and total time in hours and minutes. The calculator assumes constant speed, which is common in controlled training or race simulations.

Use this calculator to plan cycling workouts, compare performance on different routes, or adjust your pace for competitions. For example, if you want to complete a 40 km ride in 1h30, the calculator shows the required speed (26.7 km/h) and corresponding pace (2 min 15 s/km). It is also useful for cyclists alternating between speed and endurance training.

Cautions: the calculator assumes constant average speed, but on routes with climbs and descents actual pace varies. Also, pace in cycling is not as common as in running; many cyclists prefer to use average speed. Interpret pace as a reference for flat terrain training. It does not replace a GPS cyclocomputer for real-time data.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between pace and speed in cycling?

Pace is the time taken to cover 1 km (min/km), while speed is distance per hour (km/h). The calculator converts between them.

Can I use the calculator for hill training?

Yes, but the calculated pace is based on average speed. On hills, actual pace may be higher (slower) due to extra effort.

Does the calculator work for stationary bikes?

Yes, as long as you know your average speed and distance. Many ergometers display these data.

How do I interpret pace in minutes per kilometer?

A pace of 3 min/km means you take 3 minutes to ride 1 km. The lower the pace, the faster you are.

Do I need internet to use the calculator?

No, the calculator works offline in the browser after the page loads.
