caixas = ceil(área × (1 + perda%) / rendimento)
About this calculator
The Tile/Ceramic Calculator helps estimate how many boxes of covering are needed for a wall or floor. Simply enter the total area in square meters, the yield per box (in m²), and the waste percentage for cuts and breaks. The calculator applies the formula: boxes = ceiling(area × (1 + waste%) / yield). The result is the integer number of boxes to purchase, avoiding waste or shortage.
Correct usage prevents financial and material waste. For example, tiling a 12 m² bathroom with ceramic that yields 2.5 m² per box and considering 10% waste: 12 × 1.10 / 2.5 = 5.28, rounded up to 6 boxes. Remember to measure the area accurately and include extra waste for cuts in corners or patterns.
Important precautions: always buy one extra box for unforeseen needs, check the batch to avoid color differences, and note that manufacturer yield may vary depending on installation method. This calculator is a planning tool and does not replace a professional evaluation for complex projects.
Frequently asked questions
What is the ideal waste percentage for tiles?
For simple rectangular areas, 5% to 10% is enough. For rooms with many cuts or diagonals, consider 15% to 20%.
How do I measure the area correctly?
Measure the width and height of each wall or floor, multiply to get area in m². Subtract doors and windows if desired, but include larger waste.
Should I buy extra boxes even with the calculation?
Yes, buy at least one extra box for future replacements, as batches may differ in shade.
Is the box yield always accurate?
No, yield can vary with grout type and spacing. Always check with the manufacturer and consider a margin.
Can I use the calculator for floors?
Yes, it works for any ceramic covering, wall or floor. Just adjust waste according to installation type.
