Soviet Venera missions in the 1970s and 1980s managed to land and send images for short periods before being destroyed by the harsh conditions. Recent data from the Akatsuki orbiter (JAXA) and radar observations from Magellan (NASA) continue to reveal details about the planet's geology and chemistry.
